I think I'm getting old. I understand that this statement is in fact a ridiculous thing to say, and I'm under no illusion that as a human I do actually age gradually, despite convincing myself I stopped aging at 23, but I think I'm starting to think like, well, an old person. And this just won't do.
My problem I feel is the youth of today. And simply that sentence alone indicates that I myself am no longer a youth. When did this happen? What is the exact cut-off of being a youth and becoming a fully fledged grown-up-type? Well I don't remember it happening, and I'm pretty certain that I never had any sort of email or memo informing me of the switch over. I guess it went into my junk email box or something. So anyway, these youths that I mention, just what are they thinking?? They have the most ridiculous ideas and attitudes, are ridiculously impatient as if once they reach their 20's they only have a couple of years to live, and they buy music from The Saturdays (surely it has to be the youths buying it? Apart from some of the Gays maybe...). Oh, and don't even get me started on Bieber.
Now, never one to tar everyone with the same brush, it's only a few that are angering me, and as someone who refuses to grow up and act my age I actually like a lot of the 'young people' of the world today generally. One example of an absolute moron young person was on an online forum, where he was complaining that on a first date he didn't have sex or even a kiss. And the reason this was so bad? Because he hasn't got time to wait for days or weeks or months to see if it will go anywhere, if something doesn't happen on day 1, then he may as well move on to the next person. Now, his date had apparently messaged after to say it had been a lovely time and they should do it again, AND the moron guy had said he really liked his date, but due to the lack of sex/kissing/general groping he says he doesn't think he wants to see them again. ARE THESE PEOPLE FOR REAL?
You also have the people that think they should have everything they want without having to put in any work for it. Uni graduates are a prime example. Just because you've got a degree under your belt, you shouldn't expect to leave uni and become CEO of a global enterprise the next week. You've got to put the hours in, get some experience, actually learn a thing or two about the World first. And the unemployed youths who haven't got a job because they want to start at the top and anything else is beneath them. Everyone has to start somewhere, so suck it up and just get on with it. When I first got knocked back for Topshop HQ (after the most appalling phone interview I have EVER done) do you know what I did? I decided to go back and apply for a store position, get some experience of the brand and the business for 8 months and then reapplied. Now I work on the International merchandising team for Topshop HQ and I'm doing very well indeed thank you very much. I do want to be much higher eventually (obviously), but I'm happy to take it each step of the ladder at a time, knowing that I'm gaining valuable experience and knowledge along the way, which will only make me better in the roles ahead.
So anyway, rant over. I don't want to moan too much about young people, because I still want to be one of them, and I'll carry on doing my Peter Pan attempt at not growing up and pretend to be 23 for as long as I can get away with it. I just wish more younguns would chill out and realise that good things come to those that chill their beans and wait a little.

Oh, and as she has mentioned that she does read my blog sometimes I want to give a little SHOUT out to the wonderful Vikki Cutler, who has currently abandoned us for 6-7 weeks for some (very exciting murder related) jury service! We miss you Vikki!! I don't, however miss the early morning gym sessions that I'm avoiding while you're on jury service.... :)
